About Us

Sam Russell

Hi, I am the owner/ operator of Russell Tree Care.

I've been working with trees in the Arboriculture industry for over 16 years, a career that has spanned several countries.  From the UK to Europe, Scandinavia, North America and Australasia.

Originally from Somerset, my journey into arboriculture started at Cannington College, Somerset, learning the ropes at a craftsman level.

I was drawn to explore the world as soon as I could.

A lifelong wanderlust driven by a passion for rock and tree climbing took me to countless high places.  Along the way, I've taken in many stunning views and been exposed to a diverse range of climates and cultures.

Working on giant eucalyptus of Australia, de-nutting coconut palms of far north Queensland, fine urban tree pruning in Stockholm, towering Douglas firs in British Columbia and cyclone damage restoration works in the South Island of New Zealand.

Alongside arboriculture, I have also worked in the Rope Access industry, working on projects from building maintenance in the capital, heritage lighthouses offshore the Scilly Isles, cliff stabilisation in New Zealand and stage rigging for the Rolling Stones in Vancouver.

Trees and woodlands have always been a constant presence,  grounding, inspiring and giving my work meaning.

Through this journey, my appreciation for trees and their dynamic relationship with humans, the ecosystem and the landscape has only grown.

Since returning to the southwest, I have expanded my knowledge through higher education, deepening my technical understanding of the art and science of tree care.

This knowledge, combined with extensive practical experience in a range of situations, allows me to be uniquely equipped to offer well-informed, practical solutions.

Nowadays, I am firmly rooted in the southwest, living in Cornwall. Where the windswept old pines, ancient oaks and coastal life continue to inspire.
